The Ephrata Police Department reported the following:

POSSESSION: Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Mountain Road, West Cocalico Township, for a shooting at 5:27 a.m. Dec. 24. The resident, Scott L. Behney, 57, reported to 911 that he had shot an intruder with his pistol.

The investigation determined Behney was hallucinating and fired a handgun multiple times, although no one else was in the home.

No one was injured during the incident and police charged Behney with persons not to possess or use firearms because he has prior convictions, which prohibit his possession of a gun.

After being cleared by Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital Dec. 25, Behney was taken to Lancaster County Central Arraignment.

Behney is presumed innocent.
