Boydells celebrating 50 years

Bruce and Joan (Kramer) Boydell, new residents of Ephrata, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 28, 1965, in Paterson, N.J. at the Park Avenue Baptist Church by Pastor Harlan Clayton. They are members of Ephrata Community Church.

Bruce served as an officer in the nuclear submarine force of the regular U.S. Navy and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserves. He holds engineering degrees from Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the University of Delaware. He was employed by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia and held various positions with the E.I. DuPont Co., from which he retired after 20 years. He is the founder and principal consultant of Lifespan Coaching and Consulting, LLC, serving individuals, businesses, churches, and non-profit organizations.

Joan graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in literature and from Immaculata University with a master’s degree in counseling psychology. She is a licensed professional counselor and experienced teacher and public speaker. She was the executive director of Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center on the Philadelphia mainline for almost 20 years, and continues as a consultant for Care Net. She currently does private practice counseling for individuals and families.

Bruce and Joan met and became a couple during their high school years in Fair Lawn, N.J. They have served in many ministry situations throughout their years together and for several recent years were leaders and directors of a Christian ministry in north central Pennsylvania – The Haft, Inc. in New Albany.

They are the proud and grateful parents of two adult children and three grandchildren. Their son, Mark, lives with his wife, Stacey, and daughter, Sage, in Gilroy, Calif. Their daughter, Amy, and her husband, Andres Zorrilla, live in Ephrata with their two daughters. Beatrice is a senior at Ephrata High School and Abigail is an eighth grader at Ephrata Middle School.

A gathering for family and friends at their home is planned for Aug. 29.
