A ‘Wave’ of accomplishments

It was a summer filled with great accomplishments for the Ephrata Rec Tidal Waves swim team.

The Tidal Waves concluded their undefeated regular season (6-0-1) before heading to the Division Two Meet on July 20 where they finished in third place. Then, at the Lancaster Summer Swim League All-League Championships held last week at Manheim Community Pool, the team placed sixth out of 23 teams.

The Ephrata Tidal Waves will now move up to Division One next season due to its success in Division Two this summer.

Some of the team’s All-League Championships highlights included:

The 8 and under boys relay team of Cole Freeman, Chad Jones, Troy Chedraoui and Joey Myer placed first in the 100 medley and 100 freestyle relays.

The 8 and under girls 100 freestyle relay of Ella Rennix, Avery Bitner, Josephine Leonard and Cara Tiesi placed fourth.

The 9 and 10 girls team of Kailee Freeman, Kierra Parsons, Alyssa Fedorshak and Maddy Fritz placed second in the 100 freestyle relay.

The 9 and 10 girls team of Kierra Parsons, Alyssa Fedorshak, Maddy Fritz and Cailyn Keiser placed fifth in the 100 medley relay.

The 9 and 10 boys team of Thomas McGillan, Colby Simes, Will Pepper and Payton Miller placed fifth in the 100 freestyle relay.

The 13 and 14 girls team of Maya Chedraoui, Caitlin Ream, Sydney Morgan and Sydney Dundon placed 5th in the 200 freestyle relay.

Individually, some of the achievements included:

Cara Tiesi, fifth place, 25 freestyle.

Joey Myer, fifth place, 25 freestyle.

Thomas McGillan, fourth place 25 freestyle, fifth in 25 backstroke.

Cole Freeman, first place in freestyle, second place in 25 backstroke.

Kailee Freeman, first place in 25 butterfly, second place in freestyle, first place in 25 backstroke.

Alyssa Fedorshak, fourth place in 25 backstroke.

Troy Chedraoui, second place 25 breaststroke.

Other season highlights:

Cole Freeman (age 8) broke a 28 and 35-year old team record in the 8-and-under boys 25 backstroke and 25 freestyle events. Cole’s sister Kailee Freeman (age 10) broke a 23 and 28-year old team record in the 9-and-10 girls 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly events.

The Ephrata Tidal Waves also set several meet and pool records. The following individual accomplished this feat: Joey Myer (6), Troy Chedraoui (8), Chad Jones (8), Cole Freeman (8), Kailee Freeman (10) and Thomas McGillan (10).

The Ephrata Rec Tidal Waves hope to carry their momentum into the 2013-2014 winter season as they will compete in the Central Penn Aquatic League. For those interested in joining the team, information for winter team registration can be found on the Ephrata Rec Tidal Waves website.
