ER20150203_CHS vs Norlebco (3)Tucker Lescoe has found a college home.
Cocalico’s all-time leading scorer with 1,487 points, who considered several schools from each of the three divisions, decided Tuesday he will spend the next four years at Division Three power Hobart College in Geneva, NY.
In an exclusive interview with The Review Wednesday, Lescoe said the chance to play right away was a factor in his decision, along with the academics Hobart provides and the chance to join such a successful program.
“(Playing right away) is what I really wanted,” he said. “I really want to play basketball. I enjoy playing. It was a hard decision but I want to make an impact right away. That’s something I really want to do. That’s really exciting.
“One thing about them is they really have a plan for me and they want to help me reach my goals. They just really want the best for me. Obviously they think I can come in and start as a freshman. One thing I like is they don’t promise anything. They said I’m going to have to prove myself.”
Hobart won a conference championship in 2012-13 and again in 2013-14, and is enjoying some success this season. Lescoe said he informed the coach Tuesday of his decision.
Lescoe, who visited the school in October and then again on an official visit in November, said he enjoyed spending time with the Hobart team and coaches.
“I really enjoyed that,” he said. “Their team is very similar to what Cocalico basketball is- how the coaches are to the players, how the players treat each other… I just wanted to be a part of that.”
Lescoe who is averaging 19.1 points a game this season, will lead his Cocalico team into the district playoffs Tuesday night at home vs. Wyomissing.
He will go into his college freshman year undecided on a major.
“I just really can’t wait to get there,” he said. It’s just real exciting and it feels real good.”
