Eagles place fourth at Damascus Tourney

Cocalico’s annual trek to the Damascus (Md.) Holiday Wrestling Tournament was a success.

Individually, the Eagles had eight place winners, led by Ben Fromm’s second place finish at 195 pounds. As a team, the Eagles finished a solid fourth out of 15 teams with 110.50 team points.

Fromm earned his trip to the finals at 195 after collecting a 9-7 decision n his opening bout, followed by a fall in 1:24 of the semifinals. However, in the finals, River Hill’s Bebe Klum edged the Cocalico wrestler by a 5-2 decision to take the gold.

In addition to Fromm, Cocalico’s Adam Miller (126) and Trevor Fichtorn (152) both collected third-place medals at their respective weight classes, while Josiah Gehr (106), Nate Fritz (120) and Abdul Saad (182) all wrestled back for fifth place. Justin Moyer (113) and Max Martin (145) rounded out the place winners for Cocalico as both wrestlers captured sixth place.

In addition to the Damascus Tourney, Cocalico also hit the road this pat Saturday to compete at the Hamburg Hawk Mountain Duals.

Cocalico went 2-3 on the day with victories coming against Muhlenberg (48-28) and Catasaqua (51-18). The Eagles losses were to: Pottsville (49-21); Haverford (42-20); and Governor Mifflin (68-4).

Individually, Saad led the way with a perfect 5-0 day. Fritz, Martin and Fromm chipped in to the Eagles’ success with 3-2 marks on the afternoon.

Up next, Cocalico (1-1 Section Two) returns home Wednesday for a non-league dual vs. Palmyra (7 p.m.) before returning to Section Two action Thursday at home vs. Lebanon (7 p.m.). The Eagles also host Manheim Central Saturday at 7 p.m. before facing Ephrata on the road next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
