Regionals to open Saturday

All of the top American Legion teams in the area will converge on Ephrata’s War Memorial Field, site of the Region Four Tournament, beginning this weekend.

Ephrata will be hosting the tournament for the first time since the 1993 season.

Action begins Saturday with four games scheduled throughout the day, with scheduled start times at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The scheduled games are as follows: Game 1- Lebanon County champ vs. Pleasureville (York County #2); Game 2- Linglestown (Dauphin County champ) vs. Shippensburg (Franklin County champ); Game 3- Penn Manor (Lancaster County rep) vs. Cumberland County champ; Game 4- Northeastern (York County #1) vs. Ephrata (tournament host).

Prior to Game 4 Saturday, the 1990 Ephrata Elks American Legion squad will be honored, beginning at approximately 7:15 p.m. The 1990 team is still the only Lancaster County team to advance all the way to Nationals, which were held that year in Minnesota.

The tournament will continue through July 22. The following are the scheduled game times for each day: Sunday- 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Monday- 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Tuesday- 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Wednesday- 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (if necessary).

The winner of the Region Four Tournament will advance to States, which will be held July 28 through August 1 at Owls Field in West Lawn.
