Clifford E. Hagy, 90, WWII vet, Wise Construction president, enjoyed travel with his wife

Clifford E. Hagy, 90, of Denver, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital, with his daughter by his side.

He was born in Lancaster to the late Clarence and Maggie (Gehman) Hagy, and was the husband of the late Alma T. (Mirth) Hagy who passed away in 2012.

Clifford was a lifelong resident of Denver, and was the president of Wise Construction in Bowmansville. He was in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and served in Africa, Europe, and the South Pacific. His ship and crew were awarded four campaign bronze stars. He was a life member of the Denver Fire Company, the VFW Post No. 3376, and the American Legion Post No. 429, both in Ephrata. He was a plank owner in the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C.; and the U.S. Naval Institute in Annapolis, Md.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited many countries. They were fortunate to be able to visit or be guests at numerous military bases in the United States, Cuba, Antigua, Guam, and British and French bases in Europe. After retiring, he worked part-time with the greens crew at Fox Chase Golf Course.

Clifford is survived by a daughter: Gail R., wife of Albert Keith, of Reinholds; and a stepson: Richard R., husband of Patricia (Afflerbach) Hagy, of North Wales.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
