Deaths of Local Interest – March 20, 2017
Kenneth Mark Humbard, 29, of Broomall, passed away March 20. Kenny was a selfless individual who had a great sense of humor and always wanted to help others before himself. He had an extreme personality. He was respectful toward others and pursued his hobbies of hiking, weight lifting, and playing video games. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Afghanistan. He was the son of Virginia Loretta of Ephrata.
Alyce Josephine Sawtelle, 87, of Lititz, passed away March 21 at her home. Alyce worked at the Crippled Children’s Hospital in Ephrata during her earlier years, and for many years after, she ran a day care center in her home. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, loved animals, and playing with children, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy A. (Schroder) Smyth, 84, of Lancaster, passed away March 21 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was a former member of St. James Catholic Church, Lititz. A homemaker, she loved cooking, gardening, reading, and knitting and enjoyed spending time with her loving family. She volunteered at Brethren Village Retirement Community. She was a hero to her children and a loving inspiration to many. Her daughter, Linda M., wife of Dennis Witmer, lives in Stevens.
