Deaths of Local Interest – Oct. 7, 2015

Gladys C. Finnefrock, 87, of Lancaster, died peacefully Sept. 29 at Conestoga View. Born in Ephrata, she retired from Slaymaker Lock Company. Gladys was also a caring homemaker and worked for Kreider Stores. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

Glenn H. Good, 66, of Terre Hill, died Sept. 25 at Hospice of Mount Joy. Glenn’s last employment was with Conestoga Wood Specialties, Inc. Glenn’s body was donated for science.

Judy Homsher, 75, passed away Sept. 30 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Lebanon. She was a loving, caring and generous person and will be missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed creating art and spending time with her family. Judy was a longtime resident of Lancaster, and was the proprietor of Hill Street Café on Manor Street during the 1970s. Her granddaughter, Christa Brouse, wife of AJ Brouse, resides in Ephrata.

Rev. John H. Lapp, 83, of Port Allegany, died Sept. 30 at his home in Port Allegany. John attended Bible college, became a licensed minister in 1976 and was ordained in 1978. He served as Pastor of the Birch Grove Mennonite Church from 1976 till 1997. He also owned and operated the Lapp Farm from 1959 until 1993. his son, Paul Lapp, husband of Melissa, lives in Akron.

Miriam S. Umble, 98, formerly of Gap, passed away Sept. 29 at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata. Miriam was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church. She had worked for the Pequea Valley School District in the cafeteria, McClure’s Pies and Salads in Gap, and she did general housekeeping for area residents. Miriam loved spending time outside gardening, landscaping and in her flower beds.

Grace R. VanPelt, 48, of Columbiana, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 1. Grace was a member of the Mill Creek Mennonite Church in Canfield. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her sister, Arlene, wife of Rodney Zimmerman; and a brother, Kenneth, lives in Denver.

Krista Yulee Wanger, 49, of Perryville, Md., passed away Sept. 28. Born in Lancaster, Krista was a homemaker who loved her family, animals, flowers, beaches, Kid Rock, Elvis, and helping people in any way she could. She cherished her dog, Muggy and her pet chicken, Elvis. Her sister, Stacey L. Fisher, resides in Ephrata.

Josiah Lynn Zimmerman, age five weeks and three days, died Oct. 2 at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. His great-grandparents, Noah and Verna Oberholtzer, live in Ephrata.
