Sauders married 50 years

David and Joanne (Longenecker) Sauder recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on June 15, 1968 at Habecker Mennonite Church in Manor Township by Rev. Amos H. Sauder, the father of the groom.

David is the son of the late Amos and Barbara Eshleman Sauder, and Joanne is the daughter of the late Jonas and Esther Habecker Longenecker.

David and Joanne met at Millersville State College, now Millersville University. They live in Akron, and are both retired from Ephrata Mennonite School. After retirement, David continued to work at Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, and Joanne at Diamond Street Early Childhood Education Center. They are members of Metzler Mennonite Church, where they are active in music and teaching.

Three children were born to them: Christopher, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Sharon, wife of John Muhlfeld, Collegeville; and Matthew, husband of Jennifer Bowman, Landisville. David and Joanne were also blessed with five grandchildren: Maya Sauder, Amy Muhlfeld, Ty Sauder, Luke Sauder, and Jasmine Muhlfeld.

On June 9, the Sauders were honored with a 50th anniversary celebration at Metzler Mennonite Church near Akron. Planned by the family, this event was attended by many friends and family members. David and Joanne give thanks to God for his care for them and for the many friends and family members who have supported them during the past 50 years.
